Skylark – Adventure for Orchestra by Tim Labor
Our first “voyage” tonight is into outer space  Skylark is based on the early science fiction writings of E.E Smith “Skylark of Space” – a crazed early sci-fi story of space travel and Alien romance! This piece is in the realm of pops orchestra and is quite clearly in the film music genre. The work features very dense textures including more than 10 separate string parts happening at various times in the score including a solo violin part.
Tonight’s performance is the World Premiere of this new work for orchestra, which has been drafted and edited specifically for this performance.
Dr. Tim Labor is a Canadian Composer living in Los Angeles California and teaches composition and sound design at the University of California at Riverside.
