Rules

Thank you for your interest in the Concerto Competition! This is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians of the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra to perform, get expert feedback and even an opportunity to perform with the RDYO in the future as a soloist!

The Concerto Competition is open to Junior StringsIntermediate StringsSenior StringsJunior and Senior Winds and Symphony Orchestra players with a polished movement of a concerto or other piece with orchestral accompaniment.

The format is essentially a music festival. An independent adjudicator will assess each performance and provide a written evaluation and a mark. Participants must perform a complete movement for the adjudicator and audience. Piano accompaniment is mandatory. Each performer is responsible for providing their own accompanist, however, if you have difficulties with that, we may have accompanist(s) with limited availability who may be able to play for you. Please contact loren@rdyo.ca for the information if needed. Please note the cost for rehearsal, performance, and timing arrangement is a matter between you and the accompanist. We cannot guarantee that the accompanist will be able to play for you. Thank you.

Participants must bring an extra copy of the music for the adjudicator. Performers with the top scores in each division will be invited to perform their audition selection with one of the orchestras the following season. First place winners in the competition must wait out one year before re-entering to allow other members the opportunity to perform.

Please refer to the complete Compeition’s Rules for before registering.

All RDYO players, family members and friends are welcome to attend the performances to support those players who have made this extra effort to prepare and perform a movement of a concerto!

There is a small fee of $21 to cover the cost of the concerto competition.

Registration Deadline: 23:59, November 19th, 2023. Please register as soon as possible. No late registration will be accepted.

Good luck!
